Propulsion

The boilers were single furnace, express type boilers with accelerated natural circulation and uncontrolled super heat.  The min steam system transported steam form the boilers to the main propulsion generators which produced the electricity needed to turn the electric motors which in turn operated the shafts and screws. Low pressure steam was provided to operate various other systems such as heating laundry, auxiliary exhaust and fuel oil heating. 

The Main Turbo Generator was the main propulsion machinery for the ship and was rated at 4600kW, 5600 rpm, 2700 volts, 93.3 cycles, 3 phase and 1.0 power factor.  A turbine governor level was used to adjust turbine and motor speed.
