Damage From Kamikaze

The ship was hit by a kamikaze Val aircraft similar to that shown above during the battle of Okinawa May 9, 1945. 34 men died as a result of the attack and the damage took England out of the war. The pictures below we taken upon her return to
 Philadelphia for repairs and conversion to APD. The war ended before this work was completed.
